Your Horse and the Omega 3, 6, 9 Oils and Flax Oil Omega 3, 6 and 9 are known as the Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs).Your horse CANNOT naturally produce these Omega Oils.

In terms of importance, it follows the numbers – Omega 3 fatty acid is the most important Omega followed by Omega 6 fatty acid and then Omega 9 fatty acid.
The two most important essential fatty acids are Omega 3 and Omega 6.

Each of these Omega fatty acids aids your horse in a particular way.

Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and help reduce pain, swelling, promote general well-being and are associated with glossy coats.

Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory and help to maintain your horse’s immune system.

Flax Oil has by far the largest proportion of Omega 3 and the best ratio of Omega 3 fatty acids to Omega 6 fatty acids. So, what is important is the amount of Omega 3 oil and the amount of the Omega 6 oil AND the balance of these oils. Flax Oil has been proven to be the best oil to add to your horse’s feed.
